RAISING THE BAR(LEY) ON SUSTAINABLE BEER IN JAPAN

What started in 2023 as a collaboration focused on low-carbon, fully traceable malt has since evolved into a commitment to certified regenerative agriculture, showing how fast ambition can grow when two partners keep raising the bar together.

This year, Sapporo Breweries teamed up with us to launch Velvet Twilight, a limited-edition beer brewed using ClimTrace, our low-carbon, fully traceable malt from the ClimCare range. Debuting in November 2024 at Yebisu Brewery in Tokyo, this collaboration marked the first use of ClimTrace malt in Japan, and a shared belief that great beer and great sustainability can go hand-in-hand.

ClimTrace is produced from barley grown using optimised agricultural practices that reduce GHGs, increase carbon storage in soil and provide full traceability from field to beer. Using ClimTrace, brewers can lower their environmental footprint without changing their production process.

Building on the success of Velvet Twilight, Sapporo expanded its use of ClimTrace just five months later with Mariage Blanc, a limited-edition Japanese beer featuring Nelson Sauvin hops.

With a 9% reduction in GHGs linked to barley production, Velvet Twilight and Mariage Blanc show what can happen when two brands unite behind climate friendly agriculture.
