Decarbonising logistics
Transporting malt by water rather than by road moves the needle on carbon emissions. We have unlocked a 250-tonne reduction in CO₂e by shifting a major logistics route between Nogent and Rouen, from road to river transport. This reduction is despite a 5% increase in volumes moved for France.

Bulk shipments of up to 1,200 tonnes replace road transport, enabling significantly larger volumes to be moved with a lower carbon footprint.
This improvement initiative demonstrates how shifting to lower-emission alternatives has the potential to reduce emissions from our logistics network.
This shift aligns with our commitments under FRET21, a national programme led by the French Agency for Ecological Transition and the French Shippers’ Association. The initiative helps companies cut freight-related GHG emissions through better route planning, improved load efficiency and the adoption of lower-carbon transport modes.
