Our story
Who we are
We are the world’s number one maltster. With 35 malthouses in 20 countries, we were established in 2024 from the merger of two malting powerhouses, Australian United Malt Group and Malteries Soufflet, making us the world’s leading malt supplier.
Our business
Today, we are an international malting company that operates in Europe, Asia, Africa, Australia and the Americas, producing 3.6 million tonnes of malt each year.
With more than 2,200 employees, we pioneer sustainable malt solutions that meet and exceed the expectations of our customers, partners and communities.
A rich heritage
Our story stretches back to the 1800s. Some of the brands in our portfolio have served brewers and distillers for over 200 years, long before malting became a global industry. That depth of heritage is the foundation of the trust our customers place in us, and the standard every one of our people works to uphold. Today we are a leading global malt company, guided by a deep respect for the land and those who cultivate it.

Our founding brands were established over a century ago in North America, the UK and Australia.

Soufflet enters into malting
Jean Soufflet starts malting activities in Grande Malterie in Nogent-sur-Seine, France.
National expansion
We construct new plants in Nogent-sur-Seine and Strasbourg and acquire Malteries Franco Belges.
Global expansion
Canada Malting acquires Great Western Malting, Bairds Malt, Barrett Burston and Canada Malting and these brands are brought into the Group.
Global expansion
New plants are built in Poland, Hungary, Slovakia, Romania, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Germany, UK, Bulgaria, Russia, Brazil and India. In 2002 we acquire Tchecomalt (CZ) (1869) and later in 2011 we acquire Durst Maltz (DE) (1824).
United Malt Group is formed
Barrett Burston purchases Cryer Malt (2017) and United Malt Group is created (2020).
Acquisition of Malteries Soufflet by Invivo
We acquire Belgian Castle Malting (1868).
Ambitious global expansion
We acquire United Malt Group.
